2006 BESLA SCHOLARSHIP For the past 17 years the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association (“BESLA”) has awarded over $150,000 in scholarships to deserving law students seeking careers in the entertainment and sports industries. This year BESLA will once again award scholarships to aspiring law students at its 26th Annual Conference in St. Kitts & Nevis, BWI on October 25 - 29, 2006. Again, we will continue the added requirement that scholarship award recipients to be selected from our legal writing competition. This year law students desiring scholarship awards will be required to write a 1,000 word essay on this year’s conference theme: “Content & Commerce: Creative Solutions for a Digital Marketplace”. In particular, students are asked to analyze current legal issues that digital, mobile and wireless technologies have presented in the area of music, TV, film and/or sports and suggest creative solutions to those issues. The winners of the competition will be awarded $1,500 scholarships. The winning student authors will be announced at the Gala Banquet on Saturday October 28, 2006 in St. Kitts and will be considered for possible publication in BESLA’s online newsletter. Deadline: Submissions (including all scholarship requirements) must be post marked by Monday September 25, 2006. |
